FROM THE SITE’S MAKER · NOT AN AD
A 3D GAME ENGINE YOU WRITE IN DART.
Orblit is a free, open source game engine. Your game logic and your interface are Flutter. The core is C++, and Google’s Filament does the drawing.
PRE-ALPHA It’s early, and it’s built in the open.
The scene is a widget.
The viewport sits in the same widget tree as the rest of your app. Menus, inventories and pause screens are ordinary Flutter widgets. They take part in the same layout, so you can write widget tests for them without launching the game.
What it draws.
- Gaussian splats, from .ply, .spz and .osplat files
- Physically based materials, shadows, and a sky that moves
- glTF models, with FBX and OBJ converted on load
- 2D sprites, atlas packing, parallax and tile maps
- Scripting with QuickJS, so behaviour can ship without a rebuild
A C++ core, read from Dart.
Entities with the same components sit together in an archetype store written in C++. A system that wants every transform gets them in one run. Dart reads the component data as a view over the store’s own memory, not a copy.
Where it runs today.
Orblit is pre-alpha, so check before you plan around any of it. The renderer draws on macOS, iOS, Android and the web. On Linux it has only drawn on software rasterisers so far. It builds on Windows, but nobody has run a frame on a real Windows machine yet.
There are no consoles, and no marketplace of ready-made assets.
Platform support, in detailFree and open source.
Orblit is under the Mozilla Public License 2.0. You can build and ship a game with it, including a commercial one. Your game stays yours. Changes to the engine’s own files stay under the same licence.
Come and break it.
It’s early enough that the first thing you try is probably something nobody has tried yet. Ask for help, say where you got stuck, and argue about an API before it sets.
